PASTOR'S MESSAGE
September 15, 2000
The long awaited day has come and gone --- September 14, 2000.
Twenty-five years ago yesterday, on September 14, 1975, two very significant events took place. First, Pope Paul VI proclaimed Elizabeth Ann Seton the first native born, American citizen to be canonized. Second, Bishop Gerard Frey, bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette, established a parish in the city of Lafayette in honor of the newly canonized Saint.
Four years ago when we make plans to build our new church we determined then that it would be completed in time for our 25th anniversary. What better way to celebrate our patron's anniversary and our own than to dedicate our church in her memory? Bishop Edward O'Donnell, bishop of Lafayette, presided at the Rite of Dedication.
At the conclusion of the Rite of Dedication I made the following statement to the parish community:
"People have used many different adjectives to describe our church: beautiful, inviting, open, inspiring, prayerful, unpretentious, and classy. What is significant to me that when using these words to describe our church, they are also describing our parish community. For indeed you are a community that is beautiful, inviting, open, inspiring, prayerful, unpretentious, and classy. I am proud to be your pastor."
