First of Four Paintings
November 28, 1999 |
| The Journey of our patroness, Elizabeth Ann Seton, will be told by Lafayette artist, Pat Soper. These four paintings will hang in the Welcoming Area of the church. The first is entitled "Daughter - Wife - Mother." The following description will hang next to the painting when placed in the new church: Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton was born in New York City on August 28, 1774, shortly before our country was founded. Even though she was not a Catholic, Elizabeth was destined to become the first, native born American citizen to be canonized. Her mother died when she was three years old. Her father was a prominent physician. Her father taught her to care for the sick and the poor. Though her childhood was a difficult one, she enjoyed dancing and playing the piano. At the age of 19 she married the love of her life, William Seton. They had five children -- two sons and three daughters. She loved being a wife and mother. |
