Sacrament of Baptism

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

— Acts 2:38

For Catholics, the Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Whether we are baptized as infants or adults, Baptism is the Church’s way of celebrating and enacting the embrace of God; it is one’s entry into the faith.

At St. Elizabeth Seton, the Rite of Baptism is normally celebrated on Saturdays at 10:00 AM or at 1:00 PM. We also sometimes have Baptisms after the Saturday 4:00 PM or Sunday 10:00 AM masses. Prior to the Baptism, parents must meet with our Baptism Coordinator to exchange information and cover any other requirements. The parish requires that parents and godparents attend a Baptism preparation meeting.

Expectant parents should call the church office at (337) 235-1483 during the first three months of their pregnancy to begin the preparation process. The process normally takes three months and is best completed before the birth of the child.
