Hurricane Delta Directive

Hurricane Delta Directive

October 7, 2020

Bishop Deshotel has issued the following directive:

“Due to the approach of Hurricane Delta, all scheduled events at parish facilities including Masses should be cancelled for 48 hours (2 days) beginning at noon tomorrow [Thursday], through noon on Saturday. As a reminder all Catholic schools are closed on Thursday and Friday.

Forecasts demonstrate the wind event will be concluded in our area by Saturday morning.  For those priests who did not evacuate, they are to abide by all civil directives and consider safety factors, water/electricity/sewage outages, damages to facilities, and fallen debris when they determine if it is safe to resume weekend Mass schedules at their parish.

At this time pastors should remind their parishioners that the dispensation for Mass remains in effect. After the hurricane, the faithful should only attend Mass if it is safe to do so for themselves and their local community. Pastors should let their parishioners know when and where to expect future parish communications should there be any local cancellations of weekend Masses.”

In compliance with the above directive, we will not have Mass on Friday morning. At this time it is my intention to have weekend Masses at the regular scheduled times. People may check the website for updates or call the office and the answering service will inform parishioners of any changes.

Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as we prepare for another potential disaster.  Let us persevere in trusting that God’s will be done.

Blessings,

Fr. David
