Safe Environment

All clergy, lay employees, and volunteers whose work and/or ministry involve contact with children, must be Safe Environment Certified. Part of this certification includes criminal background checks and reference checks. Additionally, these individuals are required to undergo initial education/training through the diocesan safe environment program. Each calendar year, one must be re-certified.

These policies and programs, as set forth by the Diocese of Lafayette, are in place to provide a safe environment for all children and persons who come in contact with those who minister, are employed, or volunteer in service of the Church.

If you have already completed your initial training for Safe Environment but need to become re-certified, you can visit www.virtus.org to complete the re-certification training course.
