Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus,
The Knights of Columbus are an invaluable fraternal men’s organization serving our local churches and the Catholic Church throughout the world. From the moment of our founding in 1882, charity has been the first principle of the Knights of Columbus. We are Catholic men of faith and men of charitable action.
Our charitable activities encompass an almost infinite variety of local, national and international projects. Our own unique charities include the Christian Refugee Relief Fund, Disaster Relief, Ultrasound Initiative, and Coats for Kids. We also partner with international charities including Special Olympics, the Global Wheelchair Mission and Habitat for Humanity.
Through our Building the Domestic Church initiative, Knights and their families have greater opportunities to participate in a variety of activities that deepen their faith, promote the New Evangelization, and strengthen our parishes.
“We are answering Pope Francis’ call to go to the peripheries,” Supreme Knight Carl Anderson said. “We can reach half way around the globe to help those in need and we can reach to our neighbor next door. And we do that every day. That makes us witnesses to the faith.”
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to men 18 years of age or older who are practical (that is; practicing) Catholics in union with the Holy See. This means that an applicant or member accepts the teaching authority of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals, aspires to live in accord with the precepts of the Catholic Church, and is in good standing in the Catholic Church.
Reasons to Join the Knights of Columbus:
1. Join a band of brothers, a network of men in communities around the world dedicated to corporal works of mercy in the service of God and our neighbor.
2. Share in the sense of pride all Knights feel in knowing that their Order is second to none in support of our Holy Father, our bishops and priests; in working for our fellow man, and especially those most in need.
3. Support your Parish by putting your Catholic faith into action.
4. Be a part of the New Evangelization.
5. Reach out to meet community needs through programs of charity and service and deepen your faith through volunteerism.
6. Give back to your community by putting your principles and ideals into action.
7. Work with people who have similar beliefs, values, and interests.
8. Uphold Catholic teaching by defending marriage, family and building a culture of life.
9. Build and strengthen Catholic fellowship among families.
10. Provide for the financial security of our members and their families through our Fraternal Benefits program.
If you’d like to be a part of an international organization of nearly 2 million Catholic men whose principal work involves helping others in need, we’d like to meet you and invite you to join us. A Knights of Columbus member is available in the welcome area to answer any questions.
Blessings,
Fr. David
